Now, as I've mentioned above, most people who visit Barcelona know about the Route of Modernism. Everyone, at some point of the visit, takes a walk along Passeig de Gràcia and a few pictures at Casa Milà, Casa Batlló or Casa Amatller. At some point of the visit, one has to visit Park Güell. That's fine, and if I wasn't a local this is would be my plan for a visit in Barcelona.
But since I moved into my new flat, I have discovered tons of houses that are from the same period, yet no government, after more than 75 years, has taken the time or given the money to paint some of the modernist houses we have in my neighbourhood.
After an afternoon walk I've taken today, I can say that even though Antoni Gaudí was never involved in the construction of these little places, and that they are not as interesting as Passeig de Gràcia or Park Güell, these houses would be wonderful with some paint on and that in Barcelona we are losing a part of Modernism. It's the one that doesn't allow people to make money.
